Good stuff for developing my own understanding of ministry (as well as others). These comments may find their way into my D.Min.thesis.

It's too easy to forget that priests and bishops have also been ordained deacons, and we are also called to serve others by "disclosing, proclaiming, enacting and serving the Kingdom of God." It 's also easy for both lay and ordained to forget that we who have been ordained serve WITH the people, not FOR them, and the "transformational encounter with the holy" is not something that the clergy "do" while laypeople watch vicariously from the pew. At the same time, we cannot "invite" someone into a place where we ourselves have not entered, nor can priests alone bear witness to this encounter without the companionship (shall we say the communion) of the entire baptised community. Christian community (as opposed to religious clubs) gives us the courage, the will, and the conviction to enter into encounter with this "dangerous God," to allow our lives to be transformed, and then to be servants of transformation into the world where we each live.
